Today I am very frustrated with a transaction on eBay. Buyer bidded on 5 items and have taken the clothes home only to say that I haven’t been honest with my listings. She says that I must’ve sold her “Asian sizing” clothes from ASOS and H&M. Firstly, ASOS and H&M have no stores in Singapore. I usually shop online or when I travel. Secondly, I listed tag sizes AND measurements (pit to pit, length, waist etc). Thirdly, she is a 6′ 2″ tall Australian expat mum. She doesn’t look anywhere near a UK12, not 16 either.

This is all very frustrating. I’ve taken steps to be very careful and thorough with each listing. At least 3 photos from different angles, tag sizes, listed the washing label contents and gave measurements.

What would you do?

I left Singapore for the US of A in 2013 and now live in Las Vegas with my indie game dev husband and our son Gummi Gumdrop. I am also probably much older than you think I am.

  1. Ask her to measure herself properly and admit that she is no size 16. The first step to come out of her self-denial. LOL. I didn’t know there is a difference between UK16 for Asian and for ang moh.

    • I know!!! There is no “asian sizing” for UK sizes! This is what she said to me “The tags are correct however they are obviously Singapore
dimensions which are designed for a much smaller stature.”

  2. You look fab in spots!!

I am sorry to hear about your e-bay troubles! In NZ we have a site called trade me, which is pretty much the same as ebay. I remeber one of my friends sold some Doc Martin boots on there she had wore a couple of times and the woman she sold them to sent her a stream of vicious e-mails about the condition of them! It seemed like she was expecting shoes in better than new condition.

I think some people just have really crazy expectations online even know they are buying 2nd hand. But in the case of your customer it sounds like she needs to measure herself a lot better.

I hope it all works out ok!

  3. I am from the UK. There’s a great difference in UK sizes between 12 to 18, and someone cannot reasonably be a size 12-18 inclusive! As you listed the actual measurements of the garments, she knew what she was buying. Personally I would ask her to send the garments back and give her a refund.
