IMG_5806This is one of my favourite vintage dresses. It’s originally from the 80s and I got it on etsy (unfortunately the seller is no longer there). I’ve had it copied twice already! The cut-out back is my favourite part of course! And it doesn’t hurt that it skims my body and hides my belly fat!

What I’m wearing today:

Dress: Red 80s vintage shift dress with cut-out back from etsy

Accessories: Natural bamboo weave bangle from THE ISLAND SHOP; White vintage necklace from eBay

Footwear: Brown heeled clogs from OLD NAVY

IMG_5653This has been my default “travel tote”. I just dump everything I need when I’m out of state/country. Everything from my wallet and phone, to wet wipes and facial tissue, a spare cardigan or a bottle of water! I love that it’s so summery! Do you like carrying large bags?

What I’m wearing today:

Dress: Charcoal grey cotton jersey JULIA dress from Patricia Valery on etsy.com

Accessories: Set of 4 bangles from PRIMARKLilac acrylic statement necklace from TALISMAN’S (at Far East Plaza)

Bag: Pink and Beige large canvas tote from KATE SPADE

Footwear: Sparkly purple patent leather ballet flats from STEVE MADDEN

These shoes are quite bad for walking too long in. They’re sparkly and pretty BUT it’s constructed with a very stiff manmade material that give me blisters – maybe because my feet are too wide. My little toes on the ends will develop bunions if I wear them for extended periods. I do love them so much and carried them from Singapore to Las Vegas because they are pretty! LOL! Got them from Zalora for a steal!

IMG_5431This is a post dedicated to my dear dear pal Tammy K because she got me this dress AND the clutch. I must clarify that she got this dress tailor-made FOR ME so it’s one of a kind! For no reason other than because she’s wonderful! She copied the pattern of a DOROTHY PERKINS dress she bought FOR ME (again) to wear to her wedding in England several years ago but I’ve since lost about 10kgs so this new dress needed to be cinched in with a big belt. Such a dear friend whom I miss so so much…

What I’m wearing today:

Dress: Beige dress with neon florals (one of a kind gift from my friend Tammy)

Outerwear: Silver 3/4 sleeve mini cardigan from DELIA*S

Accessories: Mint green ombre bead layered necklace from FOREVER21; Neon pink obi bow belt from H&M; Black bow ring from ACCESSORIZE

Bag: Purple polka-dotted clutch from WISHFUL THINKING on etsy.com

Footwear: Brown heeled clogs from OLD NAVY

IMG_5426This post features a bag I love but don’t have many occasions to carry because it’s too small for my regular wallet. And doesn’t go with most of my things. I usually carry it when nothing matches and I just want to clash all kinds of colours or prints in one outfit. BUT more importantly this outfit features my spanking brand new SUPERGA sneakers that I bought for the princely *snigger* sum of USD8.99!! ROSS did it again! I checked and they usually retail for USD50 upwards! Big pats on my back!!

What I’m wearing today:

Top: Black OPPOSITION PARTY band t-shirt

Bottom: Red KEITH HARING mini skirt from FOREVER21

Accessories: Pepperoni Pizza Brooch from TWINKIE CHAN on etsy.com; Set of 7 black & bronze bangles from NEW LOOK

Bag: Green polka dotted GARDEN PARTY kiss-clasp purse from DEJA VU VINTAGE

Footwear: Turquoise classic sneakers from SUPERGA

IMG_5427I just wanted to put it out there for posterity that the other day when I was putting hearts on all the lovely things I liked (but not buying) on ModCloth, my husband gave me a hug and said with a sad face “It’s okay honey, soon we’ll have money for you to buy all the things you want”. How sweet is that? Honestly, even if we had a $500,000 bank balance, I don’t think I’ll be spending $300 on shoes. It’s fun looking at nice things though…

This morning T and I brought Max to the vet for a check-up to see if he is still cancer-free. He was a really happy dog the entire time until the swing doors opened and he remembered that we had to leave him there with the technician. There was a bit of a struggle but we managed. Poor doggie was so happy to see us when we picked him up!

And this was what I wore…

What I’m wearing today:

Top: Red & Cream candy-striped peplum top from OLD NAVY

Bottom: Bright blue jeans from DELIAS

Accessories: Blue chinese knot necklace from FONDA (at Far East Plaza); Rocket Popsicle Brooch and Hair Clip combo from Twinkie Chan on etsy

Footwear: Black strappy peeptoe heels from KIMCHI BLUE (Urban Outfitters)

To market, to market… to buy a fat pig… Except not. I’m vegetarian. I’m pig-friendly these days. But yes, this is what I typically wear when I do my grocery runs. Either shorts or leggings – depending on the weather. And either a t-shirt or a tank-top. I typically go to the supermarket about once every 7 to 10 days ALONE because T says his feet aches when he walks for too long on flat ground (as opposed to undulating terrain like when we’re hiking). Just as well, because I like to take my time and go round the aisles twice in case I miss out on a good deal. So yeah, this is my Housewife of Las Vegas ensemble. HAHAHA!

IMG_5267

What I’m wearing today:

Top: Grey TENNIS band t-shirt

Outerwear: Dark grey cardigan from LURVE HANDLES

Accessories: Natural bamboo weave bangle from ISLAND SHOP; Pink Skipping Girl brooch from ETSY; Brown slim ribbon belt from LURVE HANDLES

Bottoms: Light blue cuffed denim shorts from OLD NAVY

Footwear: Brown heeled clogs from OLD NAVY

Oh BTW, check out LURVE HANDLES, a new PLUS SIZE Online Store based in Singapore – don’t worry, they ship internationally too. They stock sizes from UK14-20 and prices range from S$12.50 for basics to S$45 maximum for dresses – that’s really decent right?

The grey cardigan fits really well across my shoulders (17″ across) even though the sleeves are a little long for me (because I have short limbs in general). My shoulders are actually a lot broader than my hips and I’m an inverted triangle so the length of the cardigan is great for hiding my weird proportions. The belt however was too big for me. It’s a little over 53″ long and the first hole is at 44.5″ so if you’re a UK16 like me, you’d probably need to add more holes to get it to fit right.

I am going to stop calling myself Plus-Sized here because I feel more of an in-betweenie in the US. In Singapore and the UK, I’m clearly considered PLUS because I’m usually at least a UK16. I go into the local Plus Sized shops here in the US and everything too long and too big. I’m not deluding myself because I’m still fat – I’m definitely not slim or fit. I’m a little chunkier than chubby but maybe just average here (I seem to fit well into a US12). It doesn’t change my style. I still wear whatever I want, regardless of what the labels tell me.

What I’m wearing today:

Top: Black/White polka dot top from UNIQLO x Lulu Guinness

Bottom: Black custom tea length tulle skirt from MTcoffinzUnderground on etsy.com

Accessories: Ducks charm bracelet from WOODWOOD; Black flower barrette from Forever21; Black stretchy belt from BCBGMaxAzria

Footwear: Red lacquered platforms from ZARA (Spring 2013)

Here’s a what I wore on my wedding day post. Not what I wore today, of course. This is a post long time coming. Firstly, I haven’t done an outfit post in a while, and secondly, I’ve been married for about 2 weeks.

So I didn’t wear a white wedding gown… I don’t like white, anyway. White is so difficult to move around in because you’re always afraid of getting stains here and there. Also, we did go to a Mexican restaurant after the wedding ceremony! If you know me, I was never going to be one of those brides all spanx-ed up and corsetted to look 5kgs slimmer. I don’t even get why brides order such delicious foods at their weddings but are unable to eat them. It’s my wedding and I’ll not only look the way I want, I will feel great and be deliriously happy. I WILL EAT, DRINK AND BE MARRIED!20131104-113748.jpgAnd seriously, nobody expects that someone who ran away to the US to marry an ang mo she met online, in Vegas, would have a traditional wedding to begin with, right? Those fluffy white gowns are difficult to manouver in! No trains, bustiers and weird bits that require another person to fasten or fuss about, not for this bride.

T and I didn’t have or need the luxury of an entire year (which seems like the norm) to plan our wedding. We decided we wanted to be together and we wanted to be married so that we could legally live together. And that’s that. It was definitely an occasion to celebrate. So eat some cake in our honour if you wish, make it red velvet. I’m just glad my mother didn’t kick up a big dramatic fuss with this (then again, she has another opportunity coming up to put together the wedding she wants and we did tell her we’d wear whatever she wants us to).20131104-113541.jpgSo anyway, I went for a tried and tested look within my budget, and this is what I wore for my wedding in Vegas:

Dress: Blue floral “Vintage Elizabeth” tea dress from SOHOMODE (not custom, I bought one that I liked that was on sale and got it altered to fit)

Accessories: Faux Pearls and Bright Gold Tone Vintage flowers & leaves necklace from SWHALLON JEWELRY DESIGNS on etsy; Mint floral crown with russian veil from DRESS.DANCE.SING.LOVE.LIVE. Store on etsy

Bottom: Peach Meringue petticoat from DOMINO DOLLHOUSE

Footwear: Burgundy sueded platform wedge pumps with bow from HAILEY JEANS CO (on AMAZON)

I also wore 2 bracelets – one was a bronze vintage looking gift from T’s stepmom and another was a pearl bracelet which T’s Aunt loaned me as my “something borrowed”.

I did my own hair and make-up. I think a little enhancement is necessary but I find women who look drastically different in their wedding pictures, kinda disturbing. I like how I look when I am all put together on an average day and so does T. That’s all that matters, you know? What T sees, is what he gets. It’s all real, hunny! No fake eyelashes either!

What do you think? I reckon I did pretty well for a fat bride at 35 on a budget.

And special thanks to my Father-in-law for taking these photos!

Hey after 500 outfits posts I’m still here and guess what? I’m still fat! I do feel somewhat fitter and healthier these days though. Since I’ve started the blog, I’ve been more conscious about staying upbeat and happy – frivolity is so underrated these days. These random outfit posts have served as an outlet to express… uhm I have no idea what but it makes me so lah dee dah happy just doing it. Also, the Not Your Average Women shoots I do on my little iPhone at the interviewee’s homes are still inspiring me. I’ve quit smoking, drinking and am a vegetarian (in general… I wouldn’t reject a broth made with meat if you slaved over it and served it to me at your home or pick out bits of bacon out of a salad lovingly made just for me. I just won’t consume flesh when I have a choice.) AND… here’s the thing… I turn 35 in exactly 1 month! Yup so this is 35. Take a look, feel free to gawk.

When I was growing up, 35 meant tight short curly hair, bright red lipstick, 3 kids, a husband, 2 family cars, a mountain of bills, and no social life. Guess I kinda-sorta hit some of those “targets”. *koffkoff* Life has been kind. I’ve been blessed with so many trustworthy close friends that if in a pinch and I need to delete a porn stash (if any… no really there aren’t and this is where it gets boring right?), I can count on them not to judge me. Also I have my family (and the would-be new family stateside). My career has been exciting and I’ve loved my work as well as enjoyed the company of my colleagues. In fact, I look forward to socialising at work everyday. Best of all, I’ve never had a boss or superior I didn’t like. I feel like I’ve been riding on a high, especially with my current job.

Yes life has been good and it’s getting better, especially with T. But if you wish to help make my life more beautiful, please head over to my Amazon Wishlist and buy me something for my birthday (or save the link for Christmas, maybe?). You have a month to save up and plan (I do tweak it every so often so don’t buy just yet.) I thank you from the bottom of my heart in advance. Much love. Heh.

Anyhooos… here’s the outfit I’m wearing to commemorate my 500th post (actually it’s what I wore to work today. HEH):

Top: Black/White polka dot top from UNIQLO x Lulu Guinness

Bottom: Black custom tea length tulle skirt from MTcoffinzUnderground on etsy.com

Accessories: Black straw weave belt with gold shell buckle from FRENCH CONNECTION; Handmade paper heart “Once Upon A Time” brooch from Lost In The Forest on etsy

Footwear: Black ASHIKA SCOOPED BALLET flats from ROCKPORT
