My Stuff: What’s in my overnight bag?

20130926-160927.jpg

T and I have been travelling quite a bit since I’ve been here. We spent 2 nights at his Dad’s home in Arizona, 4 nights at his Uncle’s home in New York and last weekend we spent Saturday night in California while visiting Max. Next week, we’ll be in LA for IndieCade, so it’s another trip out of state again!

This weekend, we’ll be travelling to Carlsbad and I thought that I’d frivolously share what I packed for our overnight bag. T has always left the packing to me, even when we travelled around Southeast Asia. I’ll just have to list what I packed and give him some prompts as to what else he might need, then I’ll add to the bag.

So here’s our overnight bag:20130926-154850.jpgIsn’t it cute? It’s from Singapore brand Veira. I’ve used it less than 10 times even though I’ve owned it for several years now. My holidays are usually much longer than a few days, so it’s actually too small if not used as an overnight bag.

For me I packed:

JuanitaTortilla pouch (with my skin care, a toothbrush, shampoo/conditioner, facial wash, toothpaste etc)

– UNIQLO bra top and Cotton On shorts (my default night-outside-the-house sleepwear)

– 2 changes of underpants

– My HELL BUNNY dress

– iPad

For T, I packed:

– 2 changes of underpants

– 1 pair of socks

– 1 t-shirt

– 1 pair of bermudas

– AXE deodorant

– ORAL B electric toothbrush

20130926-154743.jpgI also have a medium-sized canvas tote that I carry water and our snacks for the road trip. Additionally, there’s my handbag (but I’ll leave that for another post because it’s a grab-and-go bag that I carry whenever I go out).

So how do you pack and what kind of bags do you carry for a short trip?

My Stuff: Sunnies

20121002-091314.jpg

Sunglasses, sunnies, shades, dark glasses or whatever you fancy… I live on a tropical island and it’s practically summer all year round, so I have the perfect excuse owning so many pairs! Up till now, I only have the super cute but el-cheapo ones that I buy on sale. They’re cute and I was frankly, really happy with them… that is, until I found out the importance of good ones! (Read: HowStuffWorks “Cheap vs Expensive Sunglasses”) Cheap sunnies may look identical to pricier ones, but you are most likely foregoing the benefits of shading your eyes and in the long-run, hurting yourself. Unless your goal is merely to accessorize, then erm… well I guess go ahead and amass a large number of funky and inexpensive ones to match your wardrobe. Don’t say I didn’t warn you! The difference might just save your sight! And you know, vision problems in aging adults are on the rise, so why add to these issues?

With all that said, I have learnt the errors of my ways and I am repentant! Presenting… style and function… TAH DAH! MY NEW SUNNIES from Ray Ban! They look great on and are a brand I can definitely trust!

I’d like to thank SmartBuyGlasses for this fab pair of sunglasses! I love how the shape of the frames is so flattering and it sits right on my East Asian face. The brown tint of the lenses are just right – not too dark and I can still see clearly when I go underground, so I don’t have to remove them, walk through the tunnel, and put them back on again when it’s bright out. As you can see, they also included a lens cleaning kit – with a lint-free cloth for cleaning, some cleaning fluid and a screwdriver (how handy is that!?). It came really well-packaged, within the mailing envelope, there was a white box and bubble wrap, then the original Ray Ban packaging (and authentication tags). The order was put in on 12 September and I received it on 1 October! In that time, SmartBuyGlasses sent me no less than 4 emails to keep me notified about the order and I actually could keep track of where it was!

Do check out SmartBuyGlasses if you’re intending to get a pair of shades or eyeglasses!

My Stuff: Crazy Pink Lipstick Lady

I have been using crazy pink lippies for a long time now and whilst I often go for a nude look, when I do pink lipstick, I go all the way out! Hot Pink, fuchsia, neon pink, call it what you want. Here’s my expanded collection (thanks to my friends who gave me fab birthday pressies!)

20120930-083647.jpg

20120930-083653.jpg

20120930-083700.jpg

(L to R) L’Oreal Color Riche 285 Pink Fever, Clarins Rouge Prodige 102 Pink Paradise, MAC Glaze Big Bow, Dior Addict High Shine 864 Sketch Pink, Estee Lauder Signature Hydra Lustre Lipstick SIG 52 Brilliant Pink, MAC Satin Hollywood Nights, MAC Viva Glam Satin Nicki, MAC Satin Pink Nouveau, MAC Sheen Supreme Insanely It. I tried swatching and I’m not quite sure what to do. Anyway, I’m an NC25.

My sister gave me the MAC Hollywood Nights (from the Heatherette collection) a long time ago and I have been using it sparingly. It’s a gorgeous pink with purple undertones. The one that’s about to be gone is Big Bow from MAC’s Hello Kitty collection. I use it a lot because of the shimmer particles.

The ones that I use most often these days are L’Oreal Color Riche and the Clarins Rouge Prodige though they both leave lipstick prints all over my things (can get quite messy). But I have to say I still really love my Clarins one because Paradise Pink is such an awesome bubble-gum pink!

I think my least favourite is the Dior Addict one. Firstly, the packaging doesn’t stand. Secondly, it’s so light! I understand it’s supposed to be translucent but OMG… I have to coat it several times just to get colour.

Rydwan and Malcolm got me the MAC Insanely It! for my birthday and it’s really very creamy! My new favourite is a toss-up between that and Sian Eng’s gift of Estee Lauder’s Brilliant Pink. In terms of the texture and colour of Brilliant Pink it’s my absolute favourite amongst all but I don’t like the packaging. The gilded gold is too fancy for a common everyday office lady like me! HAHA!

Yesterday, I traded in my DBS credit card points for 2x$20 MAC vouchers to offset the cost of the Viva Glam Nicki and Pink Nouveau. I think I’m going to trade in my 6 empty MAC containers for another 1 later! Free lipsticks are great!

My Stuff: Living Conditions

My stuff is everywhere. I’m not really a collector if anything (except maybe stamps, no kidding) yet I have so so so so much stuff! I just spent yesterday afternoon trying to tidy my room and I think I might’ve stressed my joints too much. Ended up with mild inflammation that still hurt like a bitch.

I’m a grown woman in my mid-30s and I’ve just started house hunting. If I can’t even manage the upkeep of a bedroom, I can’t imagine what my future home is going to be like! So 3 weeks ago, I embarked on a shopping ban and also started selling my stuff online. I’ve given away 2 bags in June during a Freecycling event but these other stuff I still really can’t bear to part with them.

I have since thrown away most of my Uni textbooks, from my BA, PGDE and MA. Not sure why I kept so many shitty essays and outdated books but I was quite unwilling to see them dumped. I kept all my Lit novels, some printed readings and the nicer handwritten lecture notes for keepsake. The rest were mercilessly culled. Also threw out a lot of very pretty and unused but definitely expired skincare and cosmetics. I am such an incorrigible hoarder that I only am halfway through!

So anyway, some parts of my room are now clear of clutter. Half my bookshelves are tidy. I have a clean and spacious vanity table -YAY! And there’s actually space next to my bed to yoga again!

Bad news is… My bags and accessories are in a big mess and quite frankly still overflowing despite giving away and selling about 50pcs in the last few weeks. Also, I still have about 2 boxes of winter clothes I haven’t yet looked at AND I have a hanging rack full of another 30-40pcs of regular clothes (that I really still want but have no space for). The aim now is to get rid of the boxes, dismantle the hanging rack and narrow down to 100pc of accessories in the next 8 weeks!

My Stuff: Glade Solid Air Freshener

I first bought the GLADE DECOR SCENTS solid air freshener from a neighbourhood discount store type place for $2. The first 2 I bought were CLEAN LINEN and LAVENDER & VANILLA. I’ve been using them for almost 3 weeks and they’re still going strong. I put the CLEAN LINEN one in my clothes closet and the other is just placed on the bookshelf nearest to my bed. I absolutely love how when I come home from work and enter my room, I smell the deliciously dreamy LAVENDER & VANILLA. I inhale deeply a few times before settling down and go about showering/changing out of my work clothes. It sounds a bit crazy but it really takes you to another place. And for me, it feels like a signal to tell myself to relax, I’m home now.

Anyway, I’ve been on a semi domestic streak and I went off on a hunt for more of these. I discovered another discount store selling if for $1.90! Woooo! Score! And I just purchased the HAWAIIAN BREEZE and FRENCH VANILLA. I’m kinda excited to see what they’re like. In the meantime, my existing GLADE DECOR SCENTS don’t seem to show any signs of slowing down…

Been domesticated lately? What have you been up to?

My Stuff: Licorice Kiss Lock from Uyii

I am so happy with this purchase that I am going to buy another for my sister’s birthday! I chanced upon Uyii whilst looking at indie crafters on Facebook. Click click click and I ended up on their website.

I like that it’s made in Singapore. Yay! I like that it’s free next day shipping in Singapore. Yay yay!! And I love that you can easily personalize it! Yay yay yay!!!

Despite it being in the “small things” section of their shop, it’s quite a roomy purse and I’ve stuffed a card case, lipstick, iPhone and some money in it to test. Great lunch purse, I must say!

And you know me, I don’t buy expensive stuff. I’m glad that this only cost me SGD31 in all!

My Stuff: Products I Love Now (April 2012)

20120407-091805.jpg

These are some products I’ve been using for a while now and I really like them:

FANCL White Body Milk – I often work in the sun and my skin type is not exactly sun-friendly. I get freckles all over my face, arms and chest so I was searching online for something that would lighten my freckles when I read a thread on a beauty forum mentioning the product. It does not whiten or bleach your skin, I think it makes my freckles less obvious though. It’s light, fragrance-free (almost) and so easily absorbed. It’s my nightly body lotion routine now.

CLARINS Toning Lotion (Alcohol-Free With Iris) – this was an unplanned purchase. I bought a coupon for a facial at Eden Spa (Purvis Street) where they only use CLARINS products and it was such a good facial that I started wandering around looking at all the products they had on display. They carry a really good range and I casually enquired about the prices. Turned out that they had a special on the toner & make-up remover as a set. Full-sized products but virtually half the price so as all bargain hunters do, I was suckered it. I’m using the make-up remover but am not too crazy about it. The toner however, I really like! I’m not sure if I’ll continue buying it after I’m done with this bottle because of the price.

TK Trichokare Black Shine – another couponing adventure that ended up with me suckered into buying something. I do however use the product and love it. It’s been awhile now that I’ve gone “dark”. No more coloured hair and no more lightening. I’m back to my dark brown/black Asian hair because I’m turning 40 in a couple of years and I thought I’d better enjoy my natural hair colour before I started turning white. This product is used after wash and dry to provide a nice sheen/gloss without adding too much grease. I have extremely oily scalp and I have to wash my hair twice a day. I must say I almost never use product in my hair for that reason but I love this Black Shine enough to use it on my hair ends almost every day!

SE Donkey Milk Essence Foam Wash – yes Donkey Milk, not kidding! I was so amused that I bought a bottle out of curiosity. Turned out smelling like regular foam wash for showering but a lot more expensive. (SGD 49) I’ve used it about 4x and it’s part of my bi-weekly exfoliating regime. I don’t have to moisturize after this because it doubles up as a moisturiser and does leave the skin nice and soft. I use bath gloves with the product and rinse off after, just like that.

My Stuff: Wardrobe

I have a 2-door wardrobe. When I get something new, I have to get rid of something else simply because I have no space. I keep things with sentimental value and those take up permanent space. I don’t really care for owning more things than I have space for. I really don’t understand having 100000 bags, shoes, dresses…

My current wardrobe contains all the clothes, bags, socks/stockings, scarves, coats, underwear, work uniforms and old school uniforms I own. Everything. (I also have a hanging rack with things I’m chucking/have put up for sale.)

Not a fashionista obviously
