My Stuff: Statement Necklaces

There was a period of time when I would be very cautious about buying necklaces because I have a very stubby and chunky neck. Many necklaces would look like they’d be lost under my double chins or I’d not even be able to clasp it around my neck (chain extenders are awesome). These days, I wear crazy statement necklaces that look like bibs or have large pendants just to even it out. I think a simple accessory like a necklace or bangle really changes the look of an outfit. It makes it look like you didn’t just throw on an outfit but instead made the effort to pull together a look when really, it’s just one more thing you put on.

So anyway, I think I found a way to get around my own issues with necklaces and I’m glad I don’t have to shy away from them anymore. It’s just like how if you have cankles or chunky legs, you shouldn’t wear kitten heels – firstly, the tiny stem wouldn’t support my weight, secondly, it’ll make my calves look even chunkier!

In this post, I just wanted to share some of the pieces I currently own…

When I lived in Singapore, my favourite place to buy accessories and frivolous trinkets was Far East Plaza (it still is). Since I’ve moved to the US, I rely more on eBay because I hardly go out. I guess Forever21 would be a close 2nd!

What are some of your favourite accessories and where do you get them from? Please share some tips!

This is a weird one for a fashion post but not unusual for a wastedfashion post. I wore this outfit last Sunday when T and I took Max the Maximum Dog out to Red Rock Canyon for a leash-free run. Yes, I hiked for about 40 minutes along a trail that was a prehistoric seabed. It was a moderate hike and we didn’t finish the trail. It was relatively easy with mild slopes so I could do it in this outfit. Heehee…

What I wore last Sunday to hike the Red Rock Canyon Calico Tanks:

Top: Silver sweater with hearts from DELIA*S

Bottom: Navy tulle skirt with diamante from FAITH21 (former name for Forever21+)

Accessories: Silver and green beads layered necklace from ACCESSORIZE

Footwear: Women’s Fastpack Paceline Mid Hiking Boot from TIMBERLAND

20131112-185903.jpgI strongly recommend these boots for the style, fit and price (I paid USD60). They’re so easy to walk in and also, check out Red Rock Canyon too! I should do a post on our hike soon.

Hey hey it’s WHAT THE FROCK WEDNESDAY and my first day back at work. I miss Melbourne and hanging out with my inner circle but I’m happy to be back in my office socializing with my pals!

I even had a yummy chicken ramen lunch at Tori King with XH and Pearlyn! I miss our lunch chats and epicurean journeys during the work day. Today we travelled to Tanjong Pagar!

Here’s a new dress and I really love it! Got it from OFF YA TREE in Melbourne. I love that shop! The guys in there are pretty chill & easy. Bought 2 dresses from the one on Elizabeth Street. I love HELL BUNNY dresses more than ever now!

What do you think of my Pudgy-overaged-Harajuku-Taylor-Swift-getup? MWAHAHAHAHA!!! I can’t stop laughing as I type this.

What I’m wearing today:

Dress: Black ruffle “Margot Floral” dress with pink/purple prints from HELL BUNNY

Outerwear: Black cropped cardigan from WAREHOUSE

Accessories: Floral shabby chic necklace from ACCESSORIZE

Tights: Hot Pink semi-sheer stockings from idon’tknow

Footwear: Brown distressed leather booties from RUBI SHOES

Hello it’s the 13th WHAT THE FROCK WEDNESDAY and hey 50 shades of grey. Ok maybe just 3…

Bottom: Black and Grey opaque leopard print tights from DOROTHY PERKINS

Accessories: Black chainmaille & cable tie necklace from theKANG; Natural weave bangle from ISLAND SHOP

Footwear: Black Mary-Janes FLATforms with toe cap studs from some shop in Far East Plaza

I’m wearing new lipstick – L’Oreal Color Riche 285 Pink Fever, to match my pink elasticized wrist supports. Too much crocheting. Arthritic hands are angry.

I think toothy grins look better on me. These half-smiles, closed-mouth affairs look more awry than wry or coy.

Thanks for being a sport Shridar Mani!

I usually dress down on Fridays and my staples are jeans and a indie band tee. But because I’m attending my colleague Winnie’s wedding at 7.30pm and I only knock-off at 6pm, I felt it’d be too inconvenient to change. Was also a little too lazy to bring another outfit. I think this is a good attempt to transition.

What I’m wearing today:

Dress: Navy 1950s-inspired dress with smocked back from H&M

Accessories: Gold bow-shaped earrings from BETSEY JOHNSON (off eBay); Floral leather & buttons shabby-chic necklace from ACCESSORIZE (gift from my pal in the UK, Wasya Birtle)

Footwear: Black ballet flats with bow from GEOX

yeahyeahyeah… I need to get dressier shoes. But it’s hard to get something comfortable and easy to wear everyday. I have RA (still mild now) and wearing heels aren’t an option these days. When it flares up, I find it hard to move (some days I can’t get out of bed and just have to lie there motionless in pain) and I don’t want to stress my joints to aggravate or speed up the deterioration. Any ideas where I can find dressier shoes under USD100 that won’t hurt me?

Thanks for the pictures Sian Eng. I think this girl is getting really good at it. We take less than 2 minutes to get all the pictures I need these days! Pose snap, pose snap, comment, pose, snap. Done!
