This is one of 2 chinoiserie dresses that I own and I hardly ever take them out even I’ve had them both for several years now. The thing with these figure-grazing dresses is that I have to find good days to wear them (i.e. no PMS bloating or buffets). Chinese women are usually so slender that it’s almost impossible to be fat and look good in traditional costume. Luckily this isn’t really one of those made-in-china for Chinese women type dresses. I do sometimes wish I can buy off-the-rack cheongsams but I know even if I find one in my size, I don’t have the right shape to carry off the image that I want (in my head).
What I’m wearing today:
Dress: Burgundy Wine Red Mini Dress with Black Lace & Bow from PATRICIA VALERY on etsy
This was my wedding dress. T and I deliberately chose to buy something we can wear repeatedly. No sense in wasting the money just for one day. I wore this to the Las Vegas chapel wedding and also to my tea ceremony in Singapore – albeit with different accessories. It has served me well!
What I’m wearing today:
Dress: Blue floral “Vintage Elizabeth” tea dress from SOHOMODE
Does my top look familiar? That’s because you’ve seen that print HERE! It’s a dress, yes! What I’ve done is to capitalise on the fact that the dress has a wide circle skirt and just threw the black one over so there’s some shape. Now what do you think about that? Hahaha…
Do I look like I’m in pain or that I’m suffering some unspeakable sadness? I feel like that’s what it appears to be when I’m not smiling or grinning widely. I’m often asked if I’m okay and it does force me to be insanely jolly (or pretend to be) just so as not to worry anyone. HAHAHA!
So today we take it outside. I’m just experimenting. Are you sick of seeing our hall tree and our “mud room” yet? It’s not really a mud room, it’s just a vestibule outside our bedroom and where you enter from the garage. I usually do my pictures there because that’s where my shoes are and right outside the bedroom after I get dressed. It also doesn’t hurt that there’s a set of full glass sliding doors letting the light into the house.
We have a little yard outside our bedroom and Max is probably King of the area because he likes lying out on the flagstones in the day. My problem is the wind and the weird angle at which the sun hits our house so I have to catch the right time to take these pictures. I’ll probably try it out a few more times just for variety if not anything.
What I’m wearing today:
Dress: Maroon & blue printed short sleeved dress from PRIMARK
Accessories: Gold bow stretchy belt from BCBGENERATION
How do you store your bags? Hiking backpacks, shopping totes, small irregular-shaped clutches, handbags of every manner… HOW?! I didn’t bring all my bags with me when I moved to Las Vegas. Some were given to friends who really liked them, some went to my sister, some I managed to sell… BUT I still have quite a few that I eventually brought over.
Today I was trying to tidy our tiny walk-in closet to make sure that I know what I have and that they’re still in good condition. So for those with dust bags, they are carefully placed in their respective bags and stacked. The ones without, if I’m able to find a Ziplock big enough, they get zipped up then stacked. The others unfortunately just sit in my empty suitcase forgotten until I have to empty the suitcase for travels. It is not ideal at all…
I thought this would be a great time for me to start documenting the bags in my modest collection because most of my outfit posts do not feature my bags at all. So here goes…
Absolutely love this old-fashioned purse with a kitsch twist! Bought it off eBay several years ago for a steal! I haven’t been able to find any more 😦 Most of the Paul Frank bags on eBay are knockoffs or overpriced. This is one of those really well-made authentic pieces. I always get asked about it when I bring it out.
Hello from Nanuet, New York! I’m at T’s Grammy’s house and standing in the garden that his mom just planted this summer!
It’s a nice day out and about 20degC! I’m wearing something really light and that’s an unlined coat – just nice for the beginnings of Autumn (it’s going to take a while before I say Fall).
Anyway….

Footwear: Purple ballet flats with bow from OLD NAVY
I’m not a big girl – the BBW is a euphemism that doesn’t apply to me AT ALL. I’m quite short & if I weren’t fat, I’d be rather small. I haven’t grown much (except sideways) since I was 11. I fluctuate between a size 14 and an UK18. I’d like to say I don’t yo-yo diet because I don’t care for dieting but sometimes I think I unconsciously watch what I eat (see how I say that like it’s a bad thing?). I pretend to complain about being fat because I feel sometimes it’s expected of me. But really, I don’t have a self-image issue (not anymore at least). Also, I think I dress pretty nicely for someone my size and height! So here goes…
I like what I put together here for my friend Tamares’ wedding in Broughton Castle, Oxfordshire. Beautiful English Summer Day – July 18th 2009.
