As you would have figured by now (especially if you follow me on Instagram wastedfash10n), I’m kinda not in sync with my outfit posts. It takes me longer to cobble something here and upload. On instagram, everything is done on my phone so it’s easier and more timely while on the blog the details are clearer. Anyway, this was from my 36th birthday on the 13th! It was a nice lazy day. T made me a cake, we watched some TV and went out to eat (still on a budget so I brought along coupons to IHOP hahahaha).

What I’m wearing here:

Dress: Grey polka dotted strapless dress from H&M (this is a recent purchase so I’m sure it’s still in stores)

Outerwear: Blue/Red plaid shirt from L.O.G.G. H&M

Accessories: Black scarf with white stars from ACCESSORIZE; Brown cat-eye sunglasses from RAYBAN

Footwear: Blue rubber flipflops from OLD NAVY

IMG_5980A few weeks ago, my friend Evelyn of The Bottomsup Blog asked over Facebook chat if I spend time planning my outfits or I naturally just know what goes with what. I don’t. I don’t really spend time picking things out and neither do I know what to wear. Sometimes I throw it together and it doesn’t look as I imagined but I just deal with it. Today’s outfit is somewhat like that.  I’ll change out of something if I’m uncomfortable though. Other than that, it doesn’t bother me and that’s my style philosophy if one can call it that.

I wore this to get ice cream with T. We have a Cold Stone Creamery about a 10-minute drive from us and it’s in the same plaza as the supermarket I usually go to and it also excites me to say that it houses a 24hr Subway (though T was commenting about the dubious freshness of their bread at 3am).

IMG_5981What I’m wearing today:

Top: Black tee from Singapore Thrash-metal band Ossuary

Accessories: Blue, yellow & black bib style necklace from MYBEAD88 on eBay; Brown cat-eye shades from RAY BAN; Black pleather belt with silver buckle from H&M

Bag: Grey studs and skulls cross body bag from GORGEOUSLAND on eBay

Bottoms: Light blue cuffed denim shorts from OLD NAVY

Footwear: Black gladiator wedges from KENNETH COLE REACTION

IMG_5609I just realised that I look like the minions from Despicable Me. Mwahahaha… Well *koffkoff* I meant to do that. I take inspiration from everywhere in my styling. *koffkoff* But seriously, follow me on Instagram! I’m a little tardy with writing a full blog post while on Instagram, my outfit photos are almost there daily.

So anyway, I have been looking for inspiration on there and it’s awesome to see what women wear on a daily basis. Some days, I talk to T and ask him random stuff like “how do you think I should wear this pair of harem pants” and he’d frown at me in return. And I’d be like “What? Why are you frowning?”. He’s all smart-alecky and says “Oh I’m kinda stressed out about how you should wear those pants.” ARGH!! Husbands!! So instead of asking him for ideas, I go straight to instagram and see how other people wear it! My userID is wastedfash10n (because apparently wastedfashion is already taken).

IMG_5614What I’m wearing today:

Top: Black/White polka dot top from UNIQLO x Lulu Guinness

Outerwear: Mustard yellow sheer jacket from a nonameshop in Far East Plaza

Accessories: Blue, yellow & black bib style necklace from MYBEAD88 on eBay; Brown cat-eye shades from RAY BAN

Bag: Grey studs and skulls cross body bag from GORGEOUSLAND on eBay

Bottom: Light blue chambray skirt from OLD NAVY

Footwear: Black gladiator wedges from KENNETH COLE REACTION

IMG_5618I want to rave about this skirt and where I got it from. The waist band is stretchy, it’s chambray (denim’s less heavy sister) and only USD2.49! I got it at the OLD NAVY outlet store in Primm Valley, Nevada. I highly recommend that you make a trip to Primm when you’re visiting Las Vegas. It’s technically not in Las Vegas (about 45min drive away) but it’s called Fashion Outlets of Las Vegas. The town of Primm literally exists just to support the mall, casinos and the shops in that area. The 2 more popular outlet malls that are actually IN LAS VEGAS itself are the Premium Outlet Malls (North and South). There are definitely many more shops in those 2 malls but like their name connotes, it’s PREMIUM aka pricier or at least that’s what I think after shopping in all of them several times.

When you enter Nevada from Southern California, you’ll pass Primm and the outlet mall before you actually get to Las Vegas. I highly recommend that if you’re on holiday in Los Angeles, drive to Las Vegas and spend a few nights here. It’s only 4 1/2hrs to drive and I myself have driven across the desert. So if I can do it, so can you!

Anyway, if you’re in Las Vegas, look me up so we can go shopping together! Mwahahahhaa…

This is what I wore yesterday when I had to get some lab work done at the doctor’s office (i.e. blood work for my diabetes). It’s not quite summer yet but there are some days where it’s so hot here, it might as well be Summer – I’m talking about 40degC days… Can die lah! So while I do slap on the sunscreen – especially on my face, even when I’m just home ALL DAY, I cannot layer up anymore. I bare arms and legs to the unforgiving desert sun in Nevada.

What I wore yesterday:

Top: Rainbow mosaic tank top from H&M

Bottoms: Light blue cuffed denim shorts from OLD NAVY

Accessories: Red beads and cowry shell necklace from herphotoblog by Seraphina & Co; Fuchsia bangle from Sonia Rykiel pour H&M; Brown cat-eye shades from RAY BAN; Black pleather weave belt from thestreetsofbangkok

Footwear: Taupe sueded ballet flats from OLD NAVY

As you can tell from the most recent outfit posts, I haven’t really plonked down any moolah for new stuff lately. Partly because I’m always home and I haven’t got anywhere to wear these nice, new things to (YET); and because I’ve got so many clothes that I haven’t had the chance really maximise what I already own (I did give 2 bags away to the nearby Goodwill).

But style is style, it doesn’t require NEW and TRENDY things ALL THE TIME. When I was a school teacher, I was so obese and broke (and clueless) that I had maybe all of 4 outfits that I rotated in and out all year long. It was as if I was also required to wear a uniform like the students. And I know a number of my ex-students read this blog – AREN’T YOU GLAD THOSE DAYS ARE OVER? You don’t have to see me wearing clunky Doc Marts with black trousers and untucked long-sleeved collared shirts anymore!

My Stuff: Sunnies

20121002-091314.jpg

Sunglasses, sunnies, shades, dark glasses or whatever you fancy… I live on a tropical island and it’s practically summer all year round, so I have the perfect excuse owning so many pairs! Up till now, I only have the super cute but el-cheapo ones that I buy on sale. They’re cute and I was frankly, really happy with them… that is, until I found out the importance of good ones! (Read: HowStuffWorks “Cheap vs Expensive Sunglasses”) Cheap sunnies may look identical to pricier ones, but you are most likely foregoing the benefits of shading your eyes and in the long-run, hurting yourself. Unless your goal is merely to accessorize, then erm… well I guess go ahead and amass a large number of funky and inexpensive ones to match your wardrobe. Don’t say I didn’t warn you! The difference might just save your sight! And you know, vision problems in aging adults are on the rise, so why add to these issues?

With all that said, I have learnt the errors of my ways and I am repentant! Presenting… style and function… TAH DAH! MY NEW SUNNIES from Ray Ban! They look great on and are a brand I can definitely trust!

I’d like to thank SmartBuyGlasses for this fab pair of sunglasses! I love how the shape of the frames is so flattering and it sits right on my East Asian face. The brown tint of the lenses are just right – not too dark and I can still see clearly when I go underground, so I don’t have to remove them, walk through the tunnel, and put them back on again when it’s bright out. As you can see, they also included a lens cleaning kit – with a lint-free cloth for cleaning, some cleaning fluid and a screwdriver (how handy is that!?). It came really well-packaged, within the mailing envelope, there was a white box and bubble wrap, then the original Ray Ban packaging (and authentication tags). The order was put in on 12 September and I received it on 1 October! In that time, SmartBuyGlasses sent me no less than 4 emails to keep me notified about the order and I actually could keep track of where it was!
