Another dark and gloomy day. My indoor photos are not so nice lately. A super loud crash and boom of thunder minutes before this photo was taken. I love it when it rains but hate the muggy humidity when it stops. Sigh…

For some reason (other than the fact that we have our long and serious department meeting on Wednesdays), I feel like I’m dressed like an OL (Office Lady) more than usual. Sure, most office ladies would stop at one floral item instead of piling them on. What do you think?

What I’m wearing today:

Dress: Purple/Pink/Black floral sleeveless shift dress from DOROTHY PERKINS (This must be at least 5 years old!)

Accessories: Ethnic embroidery obi sash from somewhere in Inner Mongolia (It’s probably not Mongolian but Chinese.)

Footwear: Black ASHIKA SCOOPED BALLET flats from ROCKPORT

Had a nice 3-day weekend as I had taken the day off yesterday. I feel warm and fuzzy all over because I’ve been spending a lot of time with friends. After the Singapore Blog Awards on Saturday, Nat Pixiedub and I went shopping. On Sunday, we had a potluck for lunch with the extended family because my cousin Dawn is back from Hong Kong with her boyfriend Nico for a visit. Afterwards, I spent the entire afternoon till evening at Noel and Stella’s house, playing with their daughter Kate and talking endlessly about random topics with Joe, Little, Joanne, Jay, Nat Pixiedub, Cherry and Jon. And yesterday, I visited Jayne and Edwin’s house to see their newborn Jude. Followed by lunch at i12Katong with Wai Peng and 2-month old Naomi!

And today I return to work with a new hairdo! Honestly speaking, I was a little worried when the perming tools were removed and I saw crazy tight ringlets not unlike Shirley Temple. Thankfully though they loosened after being released and washed out. It’s a new look and I’m still getting used to it. I like that it looks shinier and feels softer than it used to. I guess digital perms don’t destroy your hair like regular ones do. What do you think?

What I’m wearing today:

Dress: Black tube high-low dress from NEW LOOK

Accessories: Pink floral hair band from ASOS; Black calculator watch from CASIO

Outerwear: Red/blue plaid shirt from H&M

Footwear: Black ASHIKA SCOOPED BALLET flats from ROCKPORT

Today in evacuee-fashion. Sorry, I kid. Anyway I read on Facebook that if you don’t make at least 1 haze joke, you’re not Singaporean. I find it really strange how Indonesian forest fires (the ones deliberately caused by unscrupulous cost-saving corporations) are treated as a part of life here. I overheard some people commenting how the haze “came earlier this year”.

Seriously though last night was really bad, the skies have been a weird colour since PSI levels hit 321 (hazardous). I believe visibility is not beyond 1km. The air smells acrid and I’ve been feeling sick ever since. Lucky for me, my company issued us N95 masks from 3M. These masks are really comfortable compared to the other flat paper types I’ve worn in the past. The mask forms a cup around your mouth and nose and there is a metal strip around the nose area for you to form-fit, hence forming a tighter seal (not completely air-tight though). You can still move your lips and the mask does not press down on your nose or mouth.

Anyway, haze or not, a cardigan is good to have. This is a piece called Jersey Waterfall Cardigan sponsored by FLOW and while it’s described as Teal, even my colleagues tell me it looks green. If you’ve ever had double-headed colour pencils, this is the green directly opposite the chrome yellow. Again, I’m not sure why my iPhone is not capturing the colour that I see.

Other than that, the supposed long sleeves are not. They are more 3/4 sleeves and if you’re regular height (i.e. 1.60m upwards) you will find it a little too short. Other than that, it is as described – a generous fit. I love it. It’s so soft and comfortable! Cardigans are great for transitioning in strange weather conditions – hot outdoors, cold air-conditioning indoors. Or when travelling – too cold airplanes, too hot climates? I love cardigans for layering as it can immediately jazz up a plain boring outfit and the waterfall side panels (shorter at the back), does lend some interesting detail.

What I’m wearing today:

Top: Grey HELLO KITTY tank top from FAITH21 (former Forever21)

Outerwear: Teal Jersey Waterfall Cardigan by FLOW

Accessories: Black dangling earrings from thestreetsofTaipei; Black weave faux leather belt from thestreetsofBangkok

Bottom: Grey jeans from DOROTHY PERKINS

Footwear: Black ASHIKA SCOOPED BALLET flats from ROCKPORT

Accompanying this outfit post today are 2 side rants. You’re in for a treat!

1) How Delias.com lost my business
I’ve ordered from Delia’s several years ago and this was before I discovered ASOS 2 years back. I recently checked in to see what they had, saw that there was free shipping for orders over USD75 and frivolously picked a bunch of SALE items to send to T’s home address because I’ll be there in 2 weeks for a holiday anyway. For some reason they wouldn’t take my VERIFIED Paypal because it is an overseas account, so I used my credit card. Then 2 days ago, I made another frivolous purchase of a bunch of other things that I don’t need but thought they were cheap and cute. This morning at about 1am, T received a call from Delia’s looking for me. He gave them my Singapore number but I guess he gave them the wrong number and I suspected it might be one of my online shopping deliveries. So anyway, at about 4am, he told me to email them but said I need to send a photo ID and a scan of the front and back of my card because I have an international card. And again at about 7am (Singapore time), I got another email from them to call their Order Management Services Department no later than 13th May 2013 or else my order will be cancelled.

So I did what any person in my position would do – read it as a sign that I should stop buying frivolous things I don’t need online and wrote them a polite email to apologize for the inconvenience and feel free to cancel my order. Note that the 30 April 2013 order came through fine and apparently it has been shipped. My card wasn’t declined either. Also I have just recently made some Forever21 and Urban Outfitters orders with no problems at all. So… there you go. Sorry Delia’s. I won’t go through all that trouble to buy a bunch of stuff that I can get in other places for similar prices and less hassle.

Delia’s should review their verification processes as there are more orthodox methods than asking people to scan and email images of their cards. It is troublesome and unsafe.

2) An older woman of 60 gave up her seat for me today
That’s exactly what happened. Some older lady thought I was pregnant and gave up her seat on a crowded bus for me. When a guy tried to take the seat before I could get to it, she shushed him and pointed to me. People made way for me to get to the seat. *koffkoff* So in order not to embarrass her, I did the cursory pat on the belly to tell her my (non-existant) baby thanks her for the seat. But in all seriousness, I think it’s time to do something about this distended belly. Apparently the rest of me is not fat enough for people to realise I’m just fat.

And now that is over, let’s get down to…

What I’m wearing today:

Dress: Beige floral print dress from ESPRIT

Outerwear: Black cropped cardigan from WAREHOUSE

Accessories: Agate and Quartz semi-precious stone earrings from DUSK Jewelry; Wooden sleeping fox brooch from Dulcetfig

Footwear: Black ASHIKA SCOOPED BALLET flats from ROCKPORT

My hair is starting to look like crap and I’m resisting the urge to cut it. Watch this space and see if I do anything to it in the next few days!
